For many people tattoos are not only an art but also a way that they can tell the world who they really are. In many cases tattoos have a deep seeded meaning to the person who wears them and, while some are obvious, many will require the person who has them to explain why they got it. This holds true for almost every tattoo you can see, including those that contain birds.
Originally, bird tattoos were meant to signify something about a particular person. In ancient times it could have been something along the lines of the person was a dreamer or a devout follower of a particular god or simply that they wanted to fly. More modernly, Sparrows have been used among sailors to signify the amount of traveling they’ve completed on the oceans. Each sparrow represents a set number of nautical miles and is generally done by using what is considered “old school” styling.
With all of the options available to for someone who wants to have a bird tattoo there is no reason not to go ahead with it. You can have a portrait made of your own bird or you can have something that is out of a book done. Maybe choosing a bird is a sign of a change in your life for the better (or worse) and you want to have the colors reflect that change by being vibrant (or subdued) and having them stand out on your skin. In many cases, whatever style you choose to have it done in you can find a quality artist who will be able to accomplish your goals. Remember to only patronize those tattoo parlors that keep a clean facility and use single use or onsite autoclaved utensils to help protect yourself from both diseases and infectious diseases like Hepatitis and HIV.
